Part II     3-4:30 p.m.     Media Relations/Training

Presenter

Kristy McNerlin

Communications Manager

Blue Valley USD 229

Not many of us really enjoy media interviews, but sometimes situations require us to address the media. The purpose of this training session is so you learn to feel more comfortable should you be asked to go on-camera to address a particular issue or event. Let's be honest, most people don't like media interviews for fear of looking unintelligent on camera or being taken out of context. This training will teach you how to be in control of the interview and not the reporter. We'll even run through a few school-related crisis scenarios and then practice mock interviews. As Snoopy once said, "Five minutes before the party is not the time to learn to dance."

Dinner     6 p.m.

Guest Speaker

Darin Headrick

Superintendent of Schools

Greensburg USD 422

Before May 4, 2007 Greensburg, Kansas was home to 1,400 people along with schools, shops and typical small-town American amenities. After a tornado ravaged the town, destroying 90% of its structures, the town and its residents were caught up in a whirlwind of a different kind - world-wide media attention. Greensburg Superintendent of Schools Darin Headrick will share his experiences and reflections regarding the aftermath of the storm, and the challenges and opportunities of now rebuilding a Green Greensburg!
